QUESTION - Is it that super unusual to prefer newer movies over older ones because of advances in filming and editing technology?

That's generally how I feel, though as I said elsewhere there are plenty of exceptions.

I think if it doesn't get in the way of the movie, it's not a problem. To make an analogy, if you tried to record an album like Kid A in 1970, it would sound like shit due to technological limitations. But something like Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures sounds perfectly fine, because they didn't need much advanced production techniques to get the sound they were going for.

But with a lot of movies, it's realy hard for me to watch, because the filming and sound often times just comes across as feeling really low budget or poorly done, even if that wasn't the case, because of limitations of the time. For example, I watched Die Hard the other day and while it's right on the edge of where production standards improved close enough to modern day standards to not be noticeable (in my opinion), there were still plenty of instances where the sound editing made me cringe or was so bad it sounded comical (punches and other impact noises suffer from this heavily.)

I know this isn't the prevalent opinion, but is there at least a somewhat significant minority who is with me on this?
