2014 will likely end up with 10 movies in the IMDB top 250, equaling 1995 as the year with the most movies in the list.

Currently 2014 has 6 movies in the IMDB top 250: Interstellar, Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Gone Girl, Guardians of the Galaxy, and X-Men:DoFP.

X- Men and Guardians of the Galaxy are likely to drop off the list at some point (superhero movies tend to rank high initially before dropping off).

Whiplash, Birdman, and The Imitation Game will almost certainly hit the list once they have the required number of votes. Add to this the Indian movies PK and Haider, which are currently sitting at 8.8 and 8.7 respectively, and Palme d'Or winner Winter Sleep (currently at 8.7).

This would give 2014 ten movies in the top 250, tied with 1995 as the year with the most movies on the list.

Personally I'd like to see both Nightcrawler and Edge of Tomorrow in the list as well. Gyllenhaal's acting performance in Nightcrawler was simply amazing while Edge of Tomorrow was one of the best summer action movies I've seen in a long time. Time will tell whether these two movies can sneak into the list.
