What part of a movie do you usually enjoy the most?
For me it's definitely the first act.
As the viewer you are submerged in an unknown world with new characters. Learning this world is a refreshing experience. A promise of a great story is being made, the screwups don't usually happen in this introductory part of the movie. However it turns out in the end, at this moment there's still a big potential present of a grand poetic finale. Basically, most of the dissappointments that you can have with a movie haven't happened yet at this part. This is also the part where the story teller tries to interest the viewer in the story. A big effort is being made to make you care and invest in the movie, while later on this isn't the case anymore.
Strange enough, I noticed that with books I have the opposite, the best part is near the end. It's because with books a much greater emotional connection is being built up between the reader and the characters. The catharsis at the end of a book is usually more profound than can be achieved with a 90 minutes of film, hence this difference with books.
What are your opinions on the most enjoyable part of a movie?
