In honour of Leonard Nimoy, I'm going on an all out rant about Star Treks I - VI, and you have probably missed some good movies. Even if you hate Star Trek.
Star Trek I
Probably the most boring movie of all time, but also really good science fiction. Don't bother unless you can put up with other 60's/70's sci-fi like Silent Running. This movie is honestly kind of special in some ways, as it tells an amazing story that makes the universe seem complex and wondrous. It also sucks in that it takes 30 minutes to leave space dock and is the most boring thing humans have ever created.
Star Trek II
Everyone is already quoting Wrath of Khan for Nimoy's death. This is without argument the best Star Trek movie ever made, and possibly one of the best films of the last 40 years. It's basically a submarine battle, but watching it play out is like a chess game unfolding - the stakes are high and the drama feels real.
Star Trek III
The most underrated, and overly-dismissed of the original six Star Trek movies - this one deserves a revisit. People somehow think odd = bad, even = good, but it is just not true. Trek III had a really good story and plays out like an opera, even if the sets look fake and some of the scenes don't work the way they should - it still is a pretty good flick.
Star Trek IV
Like III, this one is also directed by Nimoy, but this one is his best. Eddie Murphy cancelled at the last minute, so the script was whipped together by Nimoy and Nick Meyer (thank you again for saving all Star Trek 3 times). It reminded us that Star Trek could be fun, comedic, and a little wacky, but also deep and thoughtful all at the same time.
Star Trek V
Okay, so the Shats directed this one and the writers were all on strike, so that should explain why everyone is out of character and not really relevant to the plot. There are a couple of decent scenes (I need my pain) but mostly the movie is a waste. Sorry, this is the one real stinker of the original six.
Star Trek VI
Okay, this is what I really wanted to talk about - ST VI isn't just the right way to end the original crew - it's actually the best Spock film. Nick Meyer saves Star Trek again, and one of the best choices is by separating Kirk and Spock (pairing Kirk with #3 Bones, and leaving Spock to solve a murder mystery) for 85% of the movie. Their final scenes together are pretty special, and the movie has a good political thriller pace that makes it all work well - the second best of the original six and the best way to send off the entire crew.
