Something neat for people like me to do when you are completely obsessed with a movie and can't get over it.

I was re-watching There Will Be Blood (for like the 10th time) this week and was, again, blown away. I found myself looking for interviews of the cast and Paul Thomas Anderson, reading about the trivia on IMDB, and generally trying to learn whatever I could about it. I was disappointed to find out that PTA had refused to do a commentary for the movie on the DVD release.

Eventually, I ended up downloading the script from the movie as a PDF file and skimming through it. I thought it was great, and decided to watch the movie again and read along with the script as it played. It was a truly eye opening experience. I felt like I was able to watch the movie in a whole new light. I learned a lot more about the characters and their underlying motivations, and learned more about the story by reading scenes that were not included in the final cut.

I also ended up doing this with another movie I am obsessed with; American Psycho. It was equally satisfying.

I plan on doing this with a few more of my favorite movies (looking forward to reading some Kubrik scripts!), and would encourage others to do the same. It is a very cool way to quell a raging obsession with a movie.
