Some Thoughts On The Upcoming 'Jurassic World'
I can thank a decent portion of childhood to a green Jeep, a pissed off T-Rex, and Jeff Goldblum. If you were at all like me, child or adult, you loved Jurassic Park. It sits well through the ages as an incredible film of not only terrifying adventure but also a fantastic score, directorial presence, and phenomenal acting. As we have seen over the years this amazing movie has carried a continuous fan base and has yielded a quite impressive franchise. Still, Jurassic Park has been a tough act to follow as the following two sequels failed to live up to the caliber of the original
Jurassic Park
- This astounded us. Try to find a critical flaw in this movie, I dare you! We can thank the late Michael Crichton for such an amazing book and writing in such a mystifying fashion. The premise was not only interesting but seemingly believable as they took into account scientific progress and innovation while wrapping it within believable scenarios and plot twists. The acting performances were superb, even the kids. The score wowed us and kept us on the edge of our seats. And the special effects defied our imagination as to what we thought we could never see.
The Lost World
- OK, I was still a kid when I saw this one so it still set well with me but now I see its flaws gymnastics scene cringe. Still, the movie featured decent performances from Goldblum and Julianne Moore and I didn't completely hate Vaughn in it so there's that. But the movie lacked a good feel to it and consistent suspense. It cut certain corners and seemed more generic at parts that left an unsettling feeling at times. But we did get to see more Dinos in it and when you take it as a action packed adventured through a land before time, then it becomes easier to appreciate.
Jurassic Park 3
- UGH, I have heard different opinions on this one but personally I detest it. While I can appreciate the ole T-Rex vs Spino battle and various new elements to the story...I found this to be a really bad film filled with poor special effects, a stupid premise, and shitty acting performances (looking at you Téa Leoni). Oh, so one kid survived on the island without problem for weeks? Oh, so now we have super intelligent raptors that we are just now addressing? Oh, we got out of this one problem thanks to dumb luck and circumstance? While we can enjoy it for the same reasons as Jurassic Park 2, this one definitely left us with little hope for seeing a Jurassic Park movie that was not only visually impressive but also interesting as well.
Jurassic World
- So now we come to the next upcoming thrill ride. Will it be good? I don't know. Will I see it opening weekend. Hell yeah! This movie from the trailers seems like it has returned to impressive special effects and fantastic actors. Not to mention we return to the original premise which centers around the idea of a functioning dino park where humans try to play god and the screw everything up. That is something I can get behind. Still, one genetically engineered dinosaur is wreaking this much havoc (and in turn allowing other dinos to) after the park runs without issue for more than a decade? It's hard to believe without seeing the movie itself but it seems like there might be times when we just shake our heads at the basic plot holes allowing such chaos to transpire. But that's all speculation. Whether or not the plot is lacking we can still expect a lot of dino action, excellent special effects, and special agent Burt Macklin running around training dinosaurs which will be awesome. I don't expect it to be as good as the original nor should I try to. This will be a completely different film and more than likely has been made to be action eye-candy to the child in us all.
Afterthoughts
- So yeah, like a lot of you redditors I am mostly excited and extremely curious as to how the film will go. Will Chris Pratt be confined to dramatic one-liners or be let loose like in Guardians of the Galaxy? With the new dino be as terrifying as the T-Rex that chased our hearts? Will the movie pay homage to the majesty of the original? Time will tell but it will also tell us much more. This film will do financially well, that I am sure of. After all it will gain the attention of our curiosities as well as the excitement of kids around the globe who will contribute to its success with video games and toys. Will there be more Jurassic Park movies to come? After all, it's kind of difficult to see where else they could go with it. I know at one point they wanted to make dinos for the military (an idea that was thankfully scrapped). The idea of activists in defiance of Jurassic Park sounds near but that was sort of done with the 2nd. How many times can we try and build a park and get chases around by angry dinos? Like I said, time will tell.
TL;DR Jurassic World's plot seems iffy but will be impressive anyway. Will they make the same mistakes as the last two though? And will they make more?
