Reddit, what are some of the most underrated films not typically talked about in /r/movies?
One that immediately comes to mind for me is the dark comedy Cecil B. Demented, directed by John Waters. It was 2000 film with limited release, following a group of domestic "terrorists" who kidnap a prissy actress to star in their little film. Throughout the film the group of terrorists vow to go "Celibate for Celluloid". They run around with the victim and force her to act out the scenes of the mastermind Cecil. In the process they find themselves in a lot of funny trouble as people chase them. I definitely recommend this film. It stars Melanie Griffith, Stephen Dorff, Alicia Wiitt, and Maggie Gyllenhaal. I give it two thumbs up. Completely original.
And no, the trailer does not do this film justice.
Here is the IMDB article.
