Can someone help me understand the babadook? (SPOILERS!) via /r/movies

So I watched it last night and I really thought it was pretty dull. I think lots of it might be down to the fact that I misunderstood some stuff or maybe didnt catch some plot points.

Here are the questions I have:

1. 
   

   Was the babadook supposed to represent something to do with her late husband? (lives in the cellar with all her husbands stuff, his clothes used at points, she saw an illusion of him controlledby the babadook etc etc

   what defeated the babadook and why is he now in the cellar? Why is she keeping him there?

   
   

Does anybody have any thoughts on the film that I havent asked about? I loved As Above So Below and some people had some analysis of the film full of things I missed that made me love it more.
