Hoping someone remembers this movie... via /r/movies

I saw this movie as a kid in Europe, circa 1983-1986. Honestly, I don’t much remember the story line, plot or anything of the sort. (“I know, make it harder to figure out, why don’t you!”)

It was about this outer space alien who was a kid and had a triangular shaped high technology artifact that he used for various things. One of the other characters was a jolly fat and bearded actor. IIRC, the movie starts with a cop who’s getting shot at but he catches all of the bullets in his mouth before spitting them out. Obviously, he lived.

Does any of this ring a bell with anyone? :)
