Someone explain to me how the heck BB8 (the prop) works. Because that thing is blowing my mind.

To anyone who watched the live stream of Star Wars Celebration, when BB8 came out and was revealed to be a fully functioning prop (with a free floating head over a round body), I was blown away that it was not CGI. How the hell did they do that?
