Noticed something weird during an "It Follows" screening
Hey, so I noticed an odd sound error during a theater screening of "It Follows" yesterday that I'd never heard of before. I'd already seen the film once before, which is why I was able to pick out a very unusual occurrence.
There's a scene, maybe a third of the way through, where the main character and a guy are talking on a couch, late at night, when they're startled by a window breaking somewhere else in the house. I know this because I saw the movie once before. The only problem is, last night THERE WAS NO WINDOW-BREAK SOUND. It made no sense, because the characters jolt upright and say "What was that?" They're reacting to a sound that never happened. Several other people there had also seen the film before and we equally confused.
I should stress that none of the other sounds were off, nor did the film simply go mute for a second. Absolutely nothing was amiss, except for the glass-breaking sound being completely absent.
Anybody have any clue how that could happen? Is it possible that the theater has a very minutely different digital transfer than others that didn't get that one bit of ADR recorded? I asked some of the theater people about it afterward and they were surprised and said they'd check it out.
I just thought it was absolutely strange. The whole room didn't know how to react because they saw the characters freaking out about a sound that didn't actually happen.
Anybody else who saw "It Follows," do you remember this scene and was the sound messed up for you? It's immediately before she sees It in her house for the first time.
TL;DR; I saw a movie twice, and the second time one random sound effect was completely missing, and I'm not sure how.
EDIT: This was at two different theaters, by the way. Would be very strange indeed if it was the same place.
