Will an Animated Film ever be Nominated for Best Cinematography?

Không có nhận xét nào :

I was thinking about How to Train Your Dragon 2 when I remembered seeing it in cinemas and being in awe of the remarkable cinematography. In fact both films had wonderful cinematography, production design, costume design and - of course - great soundtracks.

Anyway, this made me remember something that popped into my head earlier in the year (and I think maybe read somewhere else but I'm not sure). Will an animated movie ever get a technical award nomination such as one for Best Cinematography? With CGI heavy films like Avatar, Life of Pi, and Gravity taking the gold in recent years I find it difficult to make an argument against animated films receiving at least some recognition. Heck, when films like Avatar win Best Production Design and Gravity is nominated it makes me wonder why animated films are never even considered for a nomination.

I know there is a stigma among those in the Academy against animation, but to me it would be warranted especially for films like the How to Train Your Dragons, Wall-E, or even Rango from a couple of years ago where the technical aspects are so remarkable.

Anyway, what do you all think? Will it ever happen? Should it happen?
