I watched Dallas Buyers Club for the first time just then...
Great movie, but I feel like Matthew McConaughey won an oscar for not being as bland as he was in previous roles. He was competent, but not brilliant. I think this is an example of presentational performance versus performance. For me, the stand-out was Jared Leto. He was absolutely incredible. He should have got something. Matthew was great, but replaceable. It never pushed the limitations of the main role. Hugh Grant or Matt Damon or Carrot Top could have played that role and got an oscar, which seemed to have been awarded mainly because of the social insecurities of a post 80s America.
TL:DR, Amazing movie. Undeserved Oscar.
