LOTR Extended any good?

I just decided to re-watch the trilogy and just realised there is an extended cut. Fellowship of the Ring is freaking 228 minutes long!! However Ive made the experience that sometimes the original cut is way better in terms of pacing and stuff. So how would you rate the extended cut compared to original?
